Steven Beletich is a consultant and clean energy advocate. His 35 year career as an energy professional includes work in conventional, renewable and nuclear power generation as well as electricity transmission planning. Steven has spent the past 23 years in a consulting role, where he has been at the forefront of a number of ground-breaking clean energy policies, such as the world’s-first phase out of incandescent light bulbs. In recent years he has lead several international initiatives related to the digitalisation of the energy system.

Key projects

Since 2014 Steven has been the platform manager for the Efficient, Demand Flexible Networked Appliances platform (EDNA).  EDNA is an initiative of the International Energy Agency’s 4E Technology Collaboration Programme.  Under Steven’s guidance, EDNA provides analysis and policy guidance aimed at improving the energy efficiency and demand flexibility of connected appliances and networks.  Steven manages the platform and oversees all of its international research.

Steven formed part of a team investigating the use of residential equipment to support the electricity grid.  This aims to address current and possible future energy supply industry practice and home energy technology standards to facilitate smarter energy use, particularly for load shifting, dynamic export limits, provision of reactive power and voltage support.

Steven is a key architect of the phase-out of incandescent light bulbs in Australia, which was a world-first project. The decision to eliminate this technology came at a time of highly charged political debate about effective ways to tackle climate change. The phase-out was a highly visible response, had measurable impact on emissions and came to pass with relative ease. It has now been emulated world-wide and Steven has worked with various economies including China, the European Union, the USA and various middle eastern countries, to help with the phase out of incandescent bulbs.
